Where does Ayurveda come from?
Ayurveda originated in India over 5,000 years ago and is the sister science to yoga. Ayurveda has its foundation and roots in natural rhythms and cycles of healing with the use of diet, spices, herbs, exercise, meditation, yoga, astrology, gem therapy, acupressure, surgery and more.
Why would I choose Ayurveda over other natural healing?
Ayurveda is thought to be the oldest healing system still in practice. The purpose of Ayurveda is to heal and maintain the quality and longevity of life. Ayurveda recognizes that nature heals disease, meaning your body has the ability to heal itself. Ayurveda aids this process with food, herbs, and lifestyle. There is an integral link between body, mind, emotions, spirit and environment. We can no longer separate them when it comes to healing. There is also a shared responsibility for the healing between the client and practitioner. We work together to form a healing plan that will accommodate and work for the client so compliance and results are achieved.
How long does it take for Ayurveda to work?
That depends on you. It took your body some time to become imbalanced so it could take time and habit changes to bring you back into balance. Be patient and consistent. Your body, mind, spirit are designed to be in perfect balance. As we work with the seasons, the time of your life, diet and lifestyle you will heal quickly.
I found some of these techniques online, why can't I just do this myself?
There is a basic understanding of Ayurveda that you can find online, such as figuring out your dosha (vata, pitta or kapha). The next step is employing the various diet, spices, herbs, seasons, time of your life, where you live, your lifestyle and integrating them with your current dosha and your current imbalance (vikriti). There are also six stages of disease - so what stage are you in and how is it best to proceed can only be prescribed by an Ayurvedic Practitioner. There isn't one recommendation or treatment for everyone, each client is treated as an individual. Treatments are very specialized.
"When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use.
When diet is correct, medicine is of no need."
